Friday Memes: I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios

Happy Friday everybody!!
Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

This week I am spotlighting I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios. I got this eARC from NetGalley. Here is the description of this February 3 release:
If seventeen-year-old Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing standing between straightedge Skylar and art school are three minimum-wage months of summer. Skylar can taste the freedom—that is, until her mother loses her job and everything starts coming apart. Torn between her dreams and the people she loves, Skylar realizes everything she’s ever worked for is on the line.

Nineteen-year-old Josh Mitchell had a different ticket out of Creek View: the Marines. But after his leg is blown off in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be. What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s dusty Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and soon, something deeper.
Beginning:
The Mitchells' backyard was packed, full of recent and not-so-recent grads in various stages of party decay.
Friday 56:
Each day felt like I was walking on a sidewalk full of cracks and I had to keep jumping around so that everything wouldn't collapse.

  1. This sounds like a read that can be both fun but also very insightful! I hope you enjoy it and I might even have to have a sneaky peek on Netgalley to see whether it's still there! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend!

  5. This sounds like an excellent story. I like the author's word choice in the opening -- "party decay" -- and the comparison of a cracked sidewalk to her life made me think of the old "step on a crack and break your mother's back" saying. So clever! I'll definitely read this book.

  6. This is one for me. The writing is visual and strong and the description sounds fun yet deep too. I also love that cover! Now, if I can stay away from Netgalley. LOL

  9. Poor Skylar. So sad that this most likely does happen in real life to some kids when their parents lose a job.

    ENJOY!!
