Book Beginnings: Virals by Kathy Reichs

Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Katy at A Few More Pages Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

My opening sentence today comes from Virals by Kathy Reichs. Reichs is a forensic anthropologist who is famous for writing a series of forensic mysteries with Temperance Brennan as the main character. The books were the starting idea for the TV show Bones.

Virals is her first young adult novel and stars a great-niece of Brennan's. The book is a fascinating science fiction mystery.

Here are the first two sentences:
A gunshot is the loudest sound in the universe.

Especially if the bullet is coming at you.
Talk about sucking you into the story! I couldn't help but keep reading to find out who was doing the shooting and why.

  2. Oh yeah...very loud. But when the bullet's coming at you, you might not notice how loud it. I'd be busy trying to get out of the way!
