Teaser Tuesday: The Emperor of Nihon-ja by John Flanagan

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
I am reading The Emperor of Nihon-ja by John Flanagan. This is the tenth Ranger's Apprentice book. These are great middle grade/young adult fantasy adventures. This one has Horace in Nihon-ja (think feudal Japan) and in trouble. Will, Halt, Alyss and Evanlyn are off to rescue him with some Skandians. The story alternates viewpoints and settings. Both groups are having adventures. My teaser is from an attempt of pirates to overtake the Skandian ship.
"You know," he said to Halt, without any trace of a smile, "it might have been simpler to have the two girls board her with their practice swords."
They exchanged a long look, than Halt shook his head. "I needed to keep some of them alive."

  1. Very nice tease. I appreciate the introduction to the excerpt :)

  2. Sounds very good!

  3. Ranger's Apprentice is definitely one of those series that I'm dying to read. In your opinion (based on characters and storylines), does this series lean more into MG audience or Young Adult?

  4. I've been wondering if my husband or I would like this series, I've picked up the first in the series and put it back several time...lol.
Thanks for the teaser and for stopping by my teaser.

  5. Pretty mysterious since I have no idea what's going on! :) Good one!
