Book Blogger Confessions is a new Monday meme started by Tiger at Tiger's All-Consuming Books and Karen at For What It's Worth. The purpose of the meme is best stated by Karen here:
"Tiger and I thought it might be time to start a meme to discuss some of the frustrations that are unique to book bloggers. What happens when the hobby you love becomes more of a chore? This meme will appear on the first and third Mondays of the month. Tiger or Karen will give us a question to respond to and a linky for sharing our responses and developing community.
This week's question is: Choosing your next book. How do you decide which book to read next? How do you balance “review” reading with “fun” reading?
I haven't been doing much choosing recently because I have been accepting so many books for review. I schedule them on my calendar to make sure that I can read and review them before their publication dates. In May, for example, I had eleven young adult books to read and review which filled up my YA calendar. I did have a wide open May for my adult blog and got a chance to shop from my TBR mountain.
When I can be, I am a mood reader and look for a book that appeals to me at the moment. It is quite easy to find something in my stack no matter what genre or author I am in the mood for. I try to alternate between adult books and YA books so that I have something for each of my blogs. It also helps to keep me fresh as a reader to alternate.
Here is what I have to choose from currently:
Adult Hardcovers June 2 |
Adult Mass Market Paperbacks |
And if I am in the mood for something YA, these are what are on the shelf right now.
YA Shelves May 13 |
How do you choose what to read next?
I am a mood reader too, which makes it hard if I HAVE to read a review book right away.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of books to read, but I think you seriously have me beat lol.

Ok ... just looking at your photos makes me feel like hyperventilating..... :)
ReplyDeleteI was looking at your review policy, and I like how you state up front how many books you'll review by request, and your timeline. I'm thinking of limited myself to 1- 2 requests per month for a while, to get my sense of balance back (and to free up time for my summer reading)
That's a lot of books to read and review per month. That doesn't overwhelm you?
ReplyDeleteThat's really impressive.
I used to be able to do that but it just got to be too much.
