Friday Memes: Dead Reckoning by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill

Happy Friday everybody!!

Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week.

Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

Dead Reckoning by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill is the book that is closest to me. I received this eARC from NetGalley recently. I chose it because of the authors and despite the zombies. Here is the description:

Jett is a girl disguised as a boy, living as a gambler in the old West as she searches for her long-lost brother. Honoria Gibbons is a smart, self-sufficient young woman who also happens to be a fabulous inventor. Both young women travel the prairie alone – until they are brought together by a zombie invasion! As Jett and Honoria investigate, they soon learn that these zombies aren’t rising from the dead of their own accord … but who would want an undead army? And why? This gunslinging, hair-raising, zombie western mashup is perfect for fans of Cowboys vs. Aliens and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.
Beginning:
Jett Gallatin expected trouble in Alsop, Texas -- but not zombies.
Well, really, in Texas in 1867 who would expect zombies? I just had to keep reading.

Friday 56:
"I'm going to check the livery stable!" Jett shouted over the racket of the Auto-Tachypode. White Fox raised a hand to indicate he's heard, and she spurred ahead toward the stables.

The Auto-Tachypode is a horseless carriage powered by a steam engine.

  5. I love that opening? Who, indeed, would expect zombies in 19th-century Texas?
