"Tiger and I thought it might be time to start a meme to discuss some of the frustrations that are unique to book bloggers. What happens when the hobby you love becomes more of a chore? This meme will appear on the first and third Mondays of the month. One of the hosts will give us a question to respond to and a linky for sharing our responses and developing community.
This week's question is: Blogger Envy: Do you have a bad case of blogger envy? Do you covet thy neighbor bloggers book hauls/follower numbers/blog design? How do you tamp down the green eyed monster?
Essentially, the answer is "no." I don't think I do have blogger envy. I do see some blogs that have masses of followers and wish I did too. But then I stop and think. I have a respectable number of followers. I don't NEED more. Do I want to discourage followers? Of course not. But I don't really feel the need to court them either.
I don't really care about blog design. I think I have had the same design for my blogs for a couple of years now. Every once in a while I think I should change things up but then I just lay down until the feeling goes away. ;-) Someday I might do some changing but basically I like the way my blog looks and don't want to start messing with it.
There are some bloggers who get ARCs from publishers I don't have a relationship with but wish I did. (Scholastic, I'm looking at YOU!) But I already have almost too many ARCs to read from NetGalley and the other publishers who send me print ARCs. Getting more would just add to the stress of meeting my commitments which is already pretty high.
Basically, I am not a jealous person. I'm happy for the bloggers who have a billion followers, really creative and pretty blog designs, and tons and tons of ARCs. What about you? Do you have blogger envy?
I used to worry about my blog design, but have been happy with it for a while now. I get plenty of ARCs, which still surprises me. I am a little envious of people with a lot of followers, but I only worry about it occasionally. Pretty happy where I am!
ReplyDeleteGreat attitude and I have found that is what works best for me as well. As I said in my answer, the more I worry what everyone else is doing and change my own style, the less successful the blog is.
ReplyDeleteI just go to the beat of my own drummer now. I would rather make good friends and share my thoughts these days.
That's so great that you don't have blogger envy and Netgalley can be a great place. Yes I look at certain publishers too :)
ReplyDeleteNice post! I don't get ARC envy -- I find I can't do too much on NetGalley because it gets a bit out of control, and as a librarian, I'm surrounded by so many books. I think this week's question is a good one -- and makes me think about when I do have envy, turning that feeling around into something to motivate me, instead.
ReplyDeleteI'm envious that you're not envious. Next time I feel that way, maybe I'll just lie down too. You have a wonderful amount of followers and I like your blog design as well.
