ARC Review: False Sight by Dan Krokos

False Sight
Author: Dan Krokos
Publication: Disney-Hyperion (August 13, 2013)

Description: All Miranda wants is a normal life. She's determined to move past the horrible truth of her origin as a clone so she can enjoy time with her boyfriend, Peter, and the rest of her friends at school. But Miranda quickly learns that there's no such thing as normal-not for a girl who was raised to be a weapon. When one of Miranda's teammates turns rogue, it begins a war that puts the world in jeopardy. Now, Miranda must follow her instincts-not her heart-in order to save everything she's fought so hard to keep. With the image of a terrible future seared in her mind, what will Miranda have to sacrifice to protect the people she loves?

Dan Krokos's sequel to the tour-de-force False Memory is a mind-blowing thriller with high-octane action that will leave readers begging for the final book in this bold and powerful trilogy.

My Thoughts: Continuing on from FALSE MEMORY, this story ramps up the danger and the adventure and expands the scope of the problem. Miranda, Rhys, Peter, Noah and Sequel are hiding in plain sight as ordinary high school students while trying to decide what to do next. But when a code phrase turns Sequel into Nina who wants to destroy the rest of the team, terrible things happen. Noah is killed but Miranda is determined to rescue his memories to see if he has any clue about what Nina wants.

Miranda is also afraid that their creator placed a time bomb in her head too that will turn her against her friends. When she experiences Noah's memories, she ends up with him in her head. He helps her stay strong and not feel alone as she goes through the battles in this book.

Miranda, Rhys, and Peter find themselves falling into a mysterious black portal that takes them to a world much like Earth that has been devastated by the insertion of the eyeless who eat most of the people there. The only thing that will control them is a torch that is hidden somewhere on that world. Unfortunately, Nina went through the same portal and is also looking for the torch. Luckily, our heroes meet our Rhys's father and a companion who help them in their search. Nina has the help of the man who is in charge of the devastated Earth and who wants the torch for himself.

Our heroes learn that our Earth is just one of multitudes that are controlled by True Earth and that the leaders of True Earth are the people who are the original Mirandas, Noahs, Peters, Olives and Rhyses. To win our Earth's freedom they have to battle those very powerful originals.

The battle is very costly for our heroes. I can't wait to read the final story in this trilogy to see what happens next. This fast-paced adventure was a very engaging read. I can't wait to share it with my students.

We might be the same, but I've never felt I could be like her, or Mrs. North, or the director. It's your choices that make you who you are.

And I choose to fight.
