Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.
This week I am spotlighting Fire Storm by Andrew Lane. This is the fourth book in the Sherlock Holmes, the Adventure Begins series. I got the ARC from Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for this October 8 release. Here is the description:
Young Sherlock's friend and her father have vanished. Their house looks as if nobody has ever lived in it; the neighbors claim never to have heard of them. Sherlock begins to doubt his sanity, until a clever clue points him to Scotland. Following that clue leads him into a mystery that involves kidnapping, bodysnatchers, and a man who claims he can raise the dead. Only the budding detective Sherlock can untangle the mind-bending--and dangerous--puzzles that ensnare his friends. Think you know Sherlock Holmes? Think again!Beginning:
"Stop it!" Rufus Stone cried out. "You're killing me!"Friday 56:
Sherlock lifted the bow from the violin strings. "Don't be so melodramatic."
"And he's cashing in on people's unhappiness," Sherlock said grimly. He found that the thought was making him angry. "He's a parasite on the human race, and someone ought to do something about it. Why don't they?"
Great teaser! The hubby would like this book!
