It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
Other Than Reading...
I didn't do as much reading as usual this week as I had company from Sunday until Thursday evening. My friend and I had a great time watching all of the final season of True Blood and the first season of Bitten on DVD. We also traveled up the North Shore with my brother to visit Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse with a stop for lunch at the famous Betty's Pies. The next day also had wonderful weather. So we spent the afternoon walking the Lakewalk in Duluth and watching the Aerial Lift Bridge lift for a variety of boats. I had forgotten to put my Fitbit in my pocket for our Gooseberry hike but remembered for the Lakewalk where I walked 9000 steps.
The rest of the week, I tried to catch up on my sleep and on my reading.
Read Last Week
Both of the books I read this week were new takes on old stories.
A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston tells the story of a young woman who volunteers to be the bride of a powerful man who has already gone through 300 wives in order to save her sister. It was a lyrical and magical story about the power of love. My review will be posted on September 30.
Spinning Starlight by R. C. Lewis was a science fiction story that got its inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans. I loved the characters and the world building in this fascinating and fast-paced adventure. My review will be posted on October 1.
Currently
The White Rose by Amy Ewing is at the top of my review stack. This sequel to The Jewel which I read and reviewed last year will be released on October 6.
Next Week
Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith is a paranormal mystery that will be released on October 6 too. I have read a couple of other books by the author and enjoyed them.
Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch is the much-anticipated sequel to last year's Snow Like Ashes. I enjoyed that one and look forward to reading this October 13 release too.
A Sliver of Stardust by Marissa Burt is a middle grade fantasy by an author I have not yet read. It will be released on October 20.
Dead Investigations by Charlie Price will also introduce me to a new author. This book will be released on October 20 too.
Reviews Posted
- Seconds Away by Harlan Coben
- Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell
- Reawakened by Colleen Houck
I bought The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
I downloaded both titles from SYNC this week. Both were historical fiction centering on World War II. You have until Thursday to get these books for your ears. - Under a War-Torn Sky by L. M. Elliott
- The Old Brown Suitcase by Lillian Boracks-Nemetz
I was a True Blood fan as well when those were out! Not quite as good as the early books (of course!) but fun. The series ending was NOT what I expected... or wanted really.
ReplyDeleteWow, even with distractions it looks like you have been reading up a storm. I've fallen behind downloading from audiosync. Thanks for the reminder. I'm going there now.
ReplyDeleteOoh nice! I can't wait for Ice Like Fire! Loved Snow Like Ashes! Hope you enjoy all your reads this week!
