It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
Other Than Reading...
I knew summer was winding down but it was confirmed this week when I got my "Welcome Back" letter from school. The letter included welcomes from the Superintendent, the High School Principal, and the Elementary Principal along with the workshop schedule for this year.
We kick off Monday, August 31, with a continental breakfast. Then its time to hear from our new superintendent. Then the rest of the morning will be an elementary faculty meeting. We all get together for lunch at the Middle School Principal's house for some socializing. Then the afternoon is filled with a high school faculty meeting and a Union meeting.
Tuesday is primarily a work day except for a webinar on our grading system in the morning and a technology update for an hour in the afternoon. Tuesday evening from 4:45 until 8 PM is our sixth grade open house. They move from the elementary building to the high school building. After an introduction and welcome from the Middle Grade Principal, the evening is spent meeting their teachers and touring the building.
Wednesday is primarily time to work in our classrooms. We have open house for everyone but sixth grade 4:30 until 8 pm. Thursday is all day in-service starting with Technology webpages, going to Learning Scales and Writing Standards and ending with a webinar on STAR. We are switching from NWEA for assessing math and reading to STAR to do the same thing.
Now that I'm 3/4 time, I don't know how much of this I will have to attend. I will probably end up going to all of it so that I am actually ready when the kids walk in on September 8. But I am exhausted just looking at the schedule.
Read Last Week
From my review stack:
The White Rose by Amy Ewing is the sequel to The Jewel (Amazon | My Review) and the middle book in a trilogy. It was fast-paced and exciting. Also, Violet learns more about why the surrogates have their powers and about the history of her land. My review will be posted on October 3 for this October 6 release.
Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith was a fantasy wherein the main character could walk in dreams and inhabit other sleeping bodies. She works as a spy for her country. This is epic fantasy; Our heroine has to save her world. My review will be posted on October 7.
Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch is the sequel to Snow Like Ashes and a middle book in a trilogy. Fans of the first book will enjoy this one too despite the fact that our heroes are in a very perilous position at the end of the story. My review will be posted on October 8.
Currently
Newt's Emerald by Garth Nix is a historical fantasy that will be released on Oct. 13.
Next Week
I'm still concentrating on reading down my review stack this week. These are all October releases.
Dead Investigation by Charlie Price (Oct. 20)
Losers Take All by David Klass (Oct. 20)
Listen to the Moon by Michael Morpurgo (Oct. 27)
These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly (Oct. 27)
- Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter
- Fairest by Marissa Meyer
- Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones
I bought The Midnight Spy by Kiki Hamilton for my Kindle. I found the description interesting and really like the cover.
You can check Inside of a Dog (my other blog) to see what adult books I read, reviewed, and plan to read.
That sounds like a busy back to school week! All the fantasy novels sound wonderful. I had forgetten that Meyer wrote Fairest before the relase of Winter. I need to read it while I wait for the end.
ReplyDeleteEnchanted Glass looks like an exciting read. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read the Cinder series. :) And Garth Nix's book series too - I have his Sabriel series as well as the Mister Monday books but I haven't gotten around to reading them yet. Soon!
