It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Dec. 12, 2016)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme begun by Sheila at Book Journey. Kellee at Unleashing Readers and Jen at Teach Mentor Texts have given it a kidlit focus.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Other Than Reading...

So much for no snow! It has snowed at least a little every day since last Sunday. We're expecting another 3 - 6 inches over the weekend too. It has also been windy and bone-chillingly cold. I'm glad I don't have to spend any time outside. This coming week is supposed to be even colder.

We are now at midquarter time of the second quarter of the school year. At the elementary this means music program time. My 5th graders practiced for their concert during my media time on Friday. Next Thursday and Friday I will miss my 3rd graders as they practice one day and perform for the school on the other. I have already lopped off the last assignment I had planned for third graders since we won't have enough time to get to it. Fifth graders might or might not be able to finish their last project for me.

We found out this week that our Christmas Break will be one day longer than we thought. School was scheduled to begin again on Jan. 2 until it was discovered that it is a legal holiday and we are not allowed to have school that day. We'll have to make up that day but our tight calendar makes finding a day to do so really difficult.

I am going to try to go home for Christmas but it will really depend on the weather in the State of Minnesota. It has to be good driving conditions in both the south where I teach and the north where I want to go. I have my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get home the afternoon of Dec. 22 which is our last day of school until Jan. 2.

Read Last Week
I read two from my TBR mountain last week.

Things I Can't Forget by Miranda Kenneally had been on my stack since 2013. It was a contemporary that was a little too religious for my reading tastes. My review will be posted on Dec. 31.

Rose & Thorn by Sarah Prineas was another engaging fantasy by one of my favorite authors. My review will be posted on Dec. 29.
I also read two books from my review stack.

You Don't Know My Name by Kristen Orlando was a fast-paced and rather violent story about a teenage spy. My review will be posted on Jan. 5.

A List of Cages by Robin Roe was a heart-breaking and graphic story of child abuse saved from being a total downer by a hopeful ending. My review will be posted on Jan. 7.

I am currently reading Beheld by Alex Flinn. I got this one for review and it will be the first I've read by this author.

Next Week
Blood Passage by Heather Demetrios is next. I read the first book in the trilogy for review and have the third book for review. I have to read this second book in the trilogy to catch up.

The Cold Eye by Laura Anne Gilman is also on the stack for next week. This review book will be release on Jan. 10.

I also hope to get to Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas next week.

Want to See What I Added to My Stack Last Week?
Rick Riordan's books were on sale for the Kindle one day last week. I bought
  • I also bought Thief of Lies by Brenda Drake because it was on sale and sounded good.
  • Last, I purchased a hardcover copy of Lock & Mori: Mind Games by Heather F. Petty with the intention of donating it to my media center when I've finished it.
You can check Inside of a Dog (my other blog) to see what adult books I read, reviewed, and plan to read.

  1. You just added several to my TBR pile. I really enjoyed Empire of Storms. It's a great book. The Alex Flinn book is on my radar. I'm hopefully going to get to Magnus Chase soon as well.

  2. Ooh nice! Quite a few new to me ones here! A few are familiar though too! Hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. Hope you manage to get home for Christmas Kay. Here in Vancouver Canada, we got an unusual snowfall. It's still here but I expect we will end up with another green Christmas.

  4. Oh wow, lots of Rick Riordan love here! :)
